Prairie scored four runs in the top of the seventh to break a 2-2 tie and top Yelm, 6-3, and clinch a 3A state berth at Thursday’s opening day of the 3A bi-district softball tournament in Lacey.

The Falcons face Stadium of Tacoma at 11 a.m. Saturday in one semifinal game at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey. The winner advances to the bi-district title game later Saturday.

Tied 2-2 through six Thursday, the Falcons sent eight batters to the plate and scored all four runs with one out. Kaysen Parker’s single was the start of four straight Prairie hits. Kylee Snider’s two-run double made it 6-2 Prairie.

The win comes after a 17-9 opening-round victory over Bethel. Despite five errors, the Falcons pounded out 17 hits including a 4 for 5 game by Snider. She finished with five hits on the day, and accounted for six RBI and three runs scored.

Prairie is the only 3A Greater St. Helens League team to reach the semifinals. Evergreen and Mountain View still remain alive in the consolation bracket after each dropping their opening-round game only to bounce back in a loser-out game. Evergreen eliminated Bethel, 19-0, and Mountain View topped Shelton, 5-4. Each play again at 9 a.m. Saturday.

2A district golf

Washougal senior Kallie Sakamoto captured her third straight district title after firing a final-round 3-over par 74 Thursday to win the 2A district girls golf tournament by 26 shots at Washougal’s Orchard Hills Golf and Country Club.

Sakamoto’s back-to-back 74s over 36 holes led to her 148 total on the Panthers’ home course. She entered Thursday with a 13-shot lead, and bested runner-up Taylor Blakley (174) of Columbia River by 26 shots.

The top 20 finishers from Thursday advance to next week’s 2A state tournament at Richland’s Horn Rapids Golf Course.
