Washington State Patrol identified the pedestrian killed when he was struck by a pickup truck on state Highway 14 the night of May 10 as a 64-year-old Portland man.

The family of Nils C. Legernes has been notified about his death, according to a WSP release.

Troopers say Brent K. Johnson, 49, was eastbound on the highway in a black Dodge Ram, approaching Milepost 1.5 when he struck Legernes.

The crash, near Columbia House Boulevard, was reported around 9:15 p.m. Legernes was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. Troopers say Legernes being on the highway caused the crash.

Legernes’ death was the second traffic fatality in a string of car crashes over the past week.

Natasha Melyn Carrillo, a 26-year-old Vancouver resident, was killed earlier on May 10 when she pulled out from the parking lot of a tavern just east of Northwest Cornelius Pass Road in Portland onto Oregon state Highway 30 and was hit by a truck.

On Friday, a single-vehicle crash near East Evergreen and Grove Street resulted in the deaths of three men and injured another. The black BMW sedan crashed into a patio with chairs and tables outside of the Igloo Restaurant.

Vancouver police reported speed as a factor in the crash, but the exact cause has not been released. The Clark County Medical Examiner also has not released the identities of the people who died.

A rollover crash on Interstate 5 near the La Center exit killed a 58-year-old Woodland man and blocked traffic in the area for several hours Saturday.

The most recent crash happened Monday afternoon at the intersection at Northeast 50th Avenue and Northeast 239th Street outside of Battle Ground.

Two people were injured in the fiery collision. However, one of the drivers involved and two witnesses helped pull a woman from her burning minivan.

The woman who was driving the van has not been identified.
