Clark County deputies were dispatched to a two-vehicle head-on collision Monday night in Vancouver that resulted in life-threatening injuries for one person.

The crash happened in the 14700 block of Northeast 72nd Avenue shortly before 9 p.m., according to a press release from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

A preliminary investigation found that a Dodge Durango was traveling southbound when it crossed into the opposing lane of traffic and collided with a northbound Toyota Prius.

A Vancouver Fire Department crew arrived on scene and reported severe damage to the front ends of both vehicles and ordered additional emergency resources to the scene, VFD said in its own release.

Two people from each vehicle were taken to area hospitals.

“At this time, injuries appear to be serious with at least one patient sustaining life-threatening injuries,” deputies said. That person required extraction from a vehicle, according to the fire department.

The three other people involved suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, the fire department said.

A traffic unit is continuing to investigate.
