Community notebook: Prairie wins rugby league title, playoffs next

The Prairie Wolf Pack high school boys rugby team won the Rugby Oregon High School Boys Varsity Premiership league title with a 6-1-0 record.

They concluded the regular season with a 47-12 win over Summit on Saturday at Bend, Ore.

Prairie’s man of the match was winger Cam Stricker. Isaiah Ward, playing at center, broke through the defense regularly with deceptive running. Seniors Aiden Solberg and Brendan May were dominant for the forward pack.

Battle Ground lost at Newberg, Ore., 29-5 on Saturday. Colin Friese was named man of the match and Brock Robinson was always a threat at center.

Also Saturday, Union beat Portland Pumas 35-0. No details were reported.

Battle Ground, Newberg, Oregon City and Reynolds finished tied for second in the league.

Prairie will play in the 10:30 a.m. Cup semifinal on Saturday at Delta Park in north Portland. Union will play in the 1:30 p.m. Bowl semifinal at Northgate Park. No. 3 and 4 seeds were still to be determined.

The winner goes forward to the state final on May 19th at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Ore.

Lacrosse state playoffs under way

Skyview and Columbia River are hosting Washington High School Boys Lacrosse playoff games Saturday.

Skyview’s opponent and game time has yet to be determined, but it will play at Ridgefield High on Saturday. Skyview (11-1) won the 4A GSHL.

Columbia River (7-7) hosts Overlake (4-7) at 4 p.m. Saturday at Seton Catholic.

Richland (12-5) beat Camas 10-5 to eliminate Camas (5-7).

Local gymnast second at state meet

Carly Christ of Vancouver Elite Gymnastics Academy placed second in the all-around in Level 5 at the Washington State Compulsory State Championships meet held on April 20.

She scored 37.450 in the all-around. She also won the beam (9.550) and vault (9.325), and was third on bars (9.375) and fifth on floor (9.200).
