The Clark College softball team finished strong on Saturday, holding off Lower Columbia to win 8-4 and split an NWAC South region doubleheader at Longview.
LCC (32-12, 19-5), the South region leader, took the first game 7-2.
Clark (11-17, 7-12) finished the second game strong after LCC got back to within 5-4 after five innings.
Freshman Cassandra Grigg, a Columbia River High grad, homered in the sixth, and Chelsea Soong drove in two runs with a triple in the seventh to seal the Penguins victory.
Clark next hosts Clackamas at noon on Monday at the Clark Softball Complex.
BASEBALL — Linn-Benton completed a five-game sweep of the Penguins by winning 4-0 and 10-4 at Albany, Ore.
LBCC (37-2, 24-1) has won 25 consecutive games.
Bryce Roesch doubled twice for two of Clark’s five hits in the first game. Clark (19-19, 10-15) had just three hits in the second game.
Clark concludes the regular season next week with five games against Southwestern Oregon. Friday and Saturday’s doubleheaders are scheduled for 1 p.m. at Kindsfather Field.
TRACK — Clark freshman Antoine Wilder, an Evergreen High grad, won the 110-meter hurdles (15.59 seconds) and was second in the 400 hurdles (55.98) at the Linfield Open in McMinnville, Ore.
Freshman Kolton Snyder, a Woodland grad, was second in the javelin (167 feet, 9 inches).
Also, Zoey Pitts placed third in the 400, and Noah Root was fourth in the 100.
