Esther Short — Heathen Brewing opened a new outdoor patio on April 21 and decided to combine two of Pacific Northwesterners’ favorite things: beer and dogs. The brewery opened its patio up for a Yappy Hour, where patrons could bring their dogs. The event was also a drive for sign-ups for the Humane Society for Southwest Washington’s annual Walk/Run for the Animals fundraiser. About 20 people at Yappy Hour signed up for the fundraiser, which raised about $160,000 for the Humane Society last year. This year’s walk/run starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at Esther Short Park at Columbia and West Eighth streets. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. and allows people to raise money for the Humane Society while participating in a chip-timed 5K run or a 3-mile walk. Dogs can run or walk on a leash with their owners during the event. Rojo the Llama will be on hand at the Party in the Park.
