Cooper, a Bernese mountain dog, can’t read, but he is a good listener. The registered Pet Partners therapy dog visited the Camas Public Library on Tuesday while young readers practiced their literacy skills.

They included Lisa Wooten, 4, of Camas.

“She loves Cooper,” said Lauren Wooten, Lisa’s mom. “It really motivates her. She practices her reading at home to get ready.”

Cooper is owned by Camas High School teacher Kristi Bridges, who for the last four years has let seniors work with the dog to offer the reading sessions twice a week as their senior project.

To sign up for a reading session with Cooper and the high school students, contact the Camas Public Library at 360-834-4692.
