Community notebook: Course record set at Couve Clover Run

Hundreds of runners converged on downtown Vancouver for the fourth annual Couve Clover Run on Sunday.

Times were fast along the fast 3, 7 and 10-mile courses that went along the Columbia Waterfront, Fort Vancouver and Officer’s Row.

Willy Sayers, 38, set a course record in winning the 7-mile race in 42 minutes, 42 seconds.

Jennifer Patrick, 41, was the women’s 7-mile champion in 52:20. The second and third-fastest females were 13 year olds Candice Owen and Kiley O’Brien.

Young runners also ruled the 3-mile run. Jacob Bostic, a 13-year-old from Tigard, Ore., won in 19:25. Brandon Chou, 13, placed third. Sheena Banks, 34, was the fastest woman in 19:25.s

Robert Roper, 41, won the 10-mile race in 1:07:14. Valerie Ellis, 32, was the fastest women in 1:10:30.

B.G. Bulls rugby stays unbeaten

For the second straight weekend, the Battle Ground Bulls rugby team shut out an opponent, beating Centennial, Ore., 35-0. Colin Friese, Brock Robinson and the man of the match Isaiah Cummings helped the Bulls improve to 2-0. Up next is a showdown against Union Titan Rugby Club at noon Saturday at Lauren Middle School in Battle Ground.

The Clark County Cyclones girls team also scored a second consecutive win, beating the Timberwolves of Bend, Ore., 35-0. Apoiliu Atuaia was named player of the match.

Junior Rangers hockey team plays at festival

The Vancouver Junior Rangers 10U hockey team closed their season at the state Pacific Northwest Amateur Hockey Association 10U Festival in Tacoma, which ran Friday through Sunday.

The Junior Rangers won their first Bronze Pool game 12-1 over the Whatcom Warriors. The Junior Rangers then lost their next two pool games. They were beaten by Seattle Admirals Red 11-6, and Everett Junior Silvertips 12-2.

In their consolation game the Junior Rangers lost to West Sound Warriors 16-7. Henry Mann scored three goals for the Junior Rangers in the final game. Elijah Fareria had two goals, and Trenton Dodd and Sage Kollodge each had one goal.

Fareria scored eight goals in the tournament, and Dodd had five.

Other members of the team included Kameron Lindberg (4 total goals), Hunter Hobson (1 goal), Benjamin Allison, Cameron Gamby (1 goal), Maxim Gudanis (1 goal), Tommy McClary (1 goal), Landen Wells (1 goal), John Allison, Coby Koprowski, Jacob Koprowski, Lola Macuiba, Peter Mann, Brando Miller and Anthony Ganoung.

Membership special for swim club

Vancouver Swim Club is having a summer membership special. Children age 6 to high school are welcome to join and experience the awesome sport of competitive swimming.

Coaches focus on stroke technique, teaching proper racing starts and turns as well as race strategy. The coaching staff has more than 70 years of combined teaching/coaching experience.

Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards of front crawl and backstroke.
