Camas junior’s essay on freedom of the press earns award

Camas — Camas High School junior Monica Chang scored a first-place finish in the Fort Vancouver Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution’s George S. and Stella M. Knight Essay Contest. Chang’s essay, “Freedom of the Press: A pillar of modern democracy,” looked at how the country’s forefathers fought for freedom of the press during the American Revolution and how the news media continues to battle for a free unfiltered press in modern society. She earned $100 and a Sons of American Revolution Certificate of Accomplishment for the win.
