Hazel Dell — Washington State University Master Food Preservers had its annual awards and recognition event Feb. 10. Last year, food preservers volunteered a combined 1,635 hours in the community. To earn their “master” status, the volunteers completed a training course to learn about food safety and preservation, and attended hands-on canning classes. The group attends events throughout Clark and Cowlitz counties to provide information about food preservation and safety. They host how-to lectures and canning classes through WSU Clark County Extension Office and attend local fairs.
