Prairie jazz band, quintet earn honors at festival

Brush Prairie — Prairie High School Jazz Band I had an impressive showing at the University of Idaho’s 2018 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival on Feb. 24, where the ensemble, directed by Ryan Messling, was named the AAA High School Instrumental Ensemble winner. The Falcon Jazz Quintet from Prairie was named a High School Instrumental Combo winner. The festival, in its 51st year, features two days of student competitions, workshops and clinics with more than 4,120 students from 141 schools in Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, Montana and British Columbia, Canada.
