A 61-year-old La Center man faces potential charges including prostitution in Multnomah County, allegations stemming from an incident initially reported as a kidnapping.

Douglas L. Braaten was jailed Wednesday on suspicion of misdemeanor prostitution and first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, a felony, according to a Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Deputies got a call in which a woman reported she’d been kidnapped. They tracked the cellphone call to the area of Bridal Veil in the Columbia River Gorge.

After searching the area, the deputies found a vehicle with the woman and a man, later identified as Braaten, who was detained for questioning and subsequently booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.
