Community notebook: Tennis gear program helps area high schools

More than 100 girls came out from 15 area high school tennis programs on Sunday to the Vancouver Tennis Center to take part in the VTC Foundation’s tennis gear swap.

Donations of rackets, bags, shoes and other equipment were available for free to players and coaches.

The VTC Foundation posted on its Facebook page that there is still a need for at least 25 more rackets to distribute to area players and coaches. Any older or newer rackets can be dropped off at the Vancouver Tennis Center (5300 E. 18th St., next to Fort Vancouver High School), as well as any other used tennis gear.

Area high schools have seen a big boom in tennis team participation over the years and this spring is no exception. More than 60 rackets were given away on Sunday.

Call VTC at 360-487-8123 with any questions about donating or the program.
