Threat to Prairie High School deemed not credible

Prairie High School notified parents Tuesday of a threat involving a firearm, which law enforcement has found was not credible.

The anonymous threat involved a firearm and was directed at the high school, said Battle Ground Public Schools spokeswoman Rita Sanders.

There was no identifying information about who made the threat, which came in through the district’s SafeSchools reporting system, Sanders said. Anyone can use the system to send in concerns about things like threats, suicidal students or other issues though the internet, phone calls, texts or email, she said.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office was immediately contacted and proceeded to investigate the threat. Deputies determined it was not credible, according to the notice to parents.

Prairie’s school resource officer and other security officials there were told of the incident when administrators responded, and additional sheriff’s office personnel were on hand the rest of the day, Sanders said.

“We take all threats seriously,” she said.

There hasn’t been a similar incident within the school district in recent memory, Sanders said.

Within a little more than a week, there were three incidents at Clark County schools, two of which resulted in criminal charges against teenagers, involving threats of gunfire or the use of a pellet gun.
