Guys — and their wives and girlfriends — who prefer yesteryear’s civilized approach to sexy will enjoy “Pin-Ups on Tour,” a traveling show based in Hollywood that’s making the rounds of the American West this summer to benefit veterans charities. Putting on low- or no-cost burlesque for veterans clubs and organizations — and for ailing veterans in Veterans Administration hospitals — is their “morale boosting mission,” they say.
Since its launch in 2015, “Pin-Ups on Tour” has performed in 46 states, entertained nearly 3,000 active and veteran service members, and donated $50,000 in free tickets and cash to veterans groups.
“Our goal is to re-create the magic of the Hollywood Canteen that operated during the 1940s as a club offering dancing, drinks and entertainment for service members, usually on their way overseas,” the website says. Get ready for a variety show featuring dancing showgirls, corny comedy, soulful lounge singers, vintage candy girls and a few surprises we won’t spoil here. “Guests will feel they stepped into another era.”
They can help spreading that feeling by dressing up in their finest vintage attire. Dig into the back of your closet for the hats, uniforms, dresses that got stowed back there decades ago. Of course they still fit! There’ll be a “best dressed” costume contest, according to organizer Elisa Cotton.
