Wednesday was a pleasant day in Clark County, but I’m sure you saw the line of clouds to our west/northwest later in the afternoon. That was a weak system that will keep a marine influence of cooler and cloudier weather for several days.
At 2 p.m., it was raining along the Washington Coast and as far inland as Rosburg along the Grays River. Not much in the way of measurable rain was expected in Clark County, but I expect some light showers or drizzle fell in the evening.
Today should be partly sunny, and then another chance of light showers tonight and again later Sunday. No soaking rains expected. Otherwise, we will have seasonable high temperatures in the 70- to 75-degree range through early next week.
This week is National Lightning Awareness Week. We had some experience with lightning last week in scattered thunderstorms. There are those who have astraphobia (fear of lightning and thunder), and I’m sure they avoid it at all risks by staying indoors. Fulminologists (those who study lightning) will tell you that if you hear thunder, go indoors. There is an old saying, “When thunder roars, go indoors!” If you are caught outside during sporting activities, don’t dash toward dugouts, rain shelters, sheds etc. They are not safe. A solid building or even a hard-top vehicle is best.
