CAMAS — East County Fire & Rescue seeks a district resident to fill a vacancy on the district’s board of commissioners.

District residents elect commissioners to set district policy, oversee its budget and supervise the fire chief.

The district said experience or education in business, finance, supervision, policy development or management would be helpful. Knowledge of firefighting is not a requirement, as commissioners supervise the managerial aspects of providing fire and emergency medical services.

Specifically, commissioners must be U.S. citizens, at least 18, registered voters who have lived in the district for at least 30 days, free of felony convictions (unless they’ve had their rights restored subsequently), and must have no contracts with the district worth more than $1,500 per month in compensation.

Those interested are encouraged to submit a letter of interest to the district by 3 p.m. July 13. Applicants should discuss their knowledge of the district, their vision for the district and any public service experience they’ve had.

The board will interview all qualified candidates at its regular meeting July 17, and the selected appointee will take office Aug. 7.

The vacant seat is for Position 1. District residents will vote to fill the seat during the 2019 general election, to fill the remaining four years of the six-year term.

Applicants can drop off or mail letters to the East County Fire & Rescue Fern Prairie Fire Station, 600 N.E. 267th Ave., Camas, WA, 98607. The station’s office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Those with questions can contact Board Chair Mike Taggart at mtaggart@ecfr.us or Deputy Chief Michael Carnes at 360-834-4908 or mcarnes@ecfr.us.
