The driver who was injured in a T-bone crash west of Vancouver Mall on Monday had pulled out in front of another car, according to a Vancouver police spokeswoman.

Firefighters with the Vancouver Fire Department were dispatched to the crash at Northeast 66th Avenue and Northeast Vancouver Mall Drive around 1:45 p.m.

Responders found a two-vehicle crash involving Buick and Nissan sedans, with one of the drivers pinned inside. Firefighters removed the left-side doors from the Buick to extricate Randi J. Brown, police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

Brown had pulled out in front of the Nissan and was hit on the driver’s side of her vehicle, Kapp said.

An ambulance took Brown to a hospital with critical injuries. She was listed in satisfactory condition Tuesday afternoon, according to a spokesman for PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.

The driver of the Nissan, Tatyana V. Shtefyuk, was uninjured, Kapp said.

There were no passengers in either car.

The police department’s traffic unit did not respond to investigate. Kapp said the unit may follow up on the crash, but there was no indication of impairment or speed so patrol officers handled the initial response.
