Portland — Businesses have grown accustomed to renting software, paying for it month-by-month through a subscription.
An Oregon startup, Rigado, thinks businesses may feel the same way about buying electronics hardware.
Rigado provides wireless equipment and software that businesses can use to, say, track inventory in a warehouse. Affix a wireless tag to a widget and Rigado’s technology — a combination of electronics gear and back-end software — will monitor its location until it’s sold.
Rigado, whose offices are split between Portland and Salem, said Thursday that it had raised $15 million to hire engineers and salespeople to develop and deploy its technology.
Rigado employs 50, including 40 in Oregon. With Thursday’s funding, Tate said, the company expects to grow as much as 50 percent in the next year.
