Law enforcement officers pursued a driver in a minivan on a high-speed chase from Cowlitz County down Interstate 5 to downtown Vancouver Thursday evening.

The chase originated in Cowlitz County.

According to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian, deputies and state troopers pursued the van, which reached speeds in the triple digits, south and deployed spike strips along the way.

The chase ended shortly before 8:30 p.m., when the driver — going on little more than wheel rims, per radio traffic — pulled onto state Highway 14, into oncoming traffic.

The van caught on fire at some point after stopping, and firefighters responded. Westbound traffic from Highway 14 going heading onto Interstate 5 southbound or into downtown Vancouver was temporarily blocked.
