Humphreys, Tibbits in the mix at Oregon Am golf

Runner-up the past two years, Camas High grad and Boise State golfer Brian Humphreys got off to a solid start Monday at the 109th Oregon Amateur Championship at Bend Golf Club.

Humphreys shot a 1-under-par 71 and is tied for 10th, but just three shots behind lead David Ganz of Portland, who opened with a 4-under on the first of two rounds of stroke play.

Fort Vancouver High grad and Oregon State golfer Spencer Tibbits is in an eight-way tie for second at 3-under. He had six birdies in his opening round.

The top 64 players after Tuesday’s round advance to match play beginning Wednesday.

In the women’s division, Camas resident Amanda Elich is tied for third after an even-par 72. GiGi Stoll of Tigard leads at 6-under, and Ellen Secor of Portland is second at 1-under.

Camas High grad Hailey Oster and Union High grad Taylor Hartley finished their first rounds tied for 17th, both at 9-over.

MOODY QUALIFIES FOR JUNIOR AM — Graham Moody, a sophomore-to-be at Mountain View, qualified for the USGA Junior Amateur by placing second in a qualifying tournament Monday in Aloha, Ore.

Moody shot an even-par 72 at the Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club to advance to the USGA Junior Amateur, which will be held July 16-21 at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J.
