Forecasters have issued a special weather statement for the Portland-Vancouver area for the wetter and cooler conditions expected this weekend.

Rain will be moving onto the South Washington and North Oregon coasts beginning Friday morning and is expected to spread inland by Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

“Rain will continue on and off through Sunday, tapering off Monday,” the special weather statement says.

Most of the rain is forecasted to drench Vancouver and other Clark County communities Friday night into Saturday. The weather service is predicting about a half-inch of rain during that time.

The affected county communities include Vancouver, Battle Ground, Ridgefield, Washougal, Yacolt and Amboy.

Basically, everyone should prepare for a wet weekend. And residents planning to camp should be prepared for more than rain.

Snow levels will also be falling lower than they have been in a while, dropping down to around pass levels Saturday night into Sunday morning.

“While pavement temperatures will prohibit snow from sticking at the passes, people up in the mountains camping or hiking may encounter an inch or two of snow if up above 4500 feet overnight Saturday night into Sunday morning,” according to the weather service.

Things will start to warm up Monday. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a daytime high of 72 degrees in Vancouver.
