The Portland Timbers beat the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup Wednesday at Providence Park.

Vancouver’s Foster Langsdorf made his Timbers debut as a substitute in the 67th minute. The 22-year-old forward has five goals in 10 appearances this season for T2, the Timbers’ United Soccer League affiliate.

The Timbers signed four T2 players to four-day contracts for Wednesday’s match. Major League Soccer clubs can sign players from their USL affiliates to those short-term contracts for exhibitions and U.S. Open Cup matches up to four times a season.

Jeremy Ebobisse put the Timbers ahead in the 26th minute. Dairon Asprilla doubled the lead in the 66th minute.

The Timbers will learn their next cup opponent in the Round of 16 draw Thursday.

• Former midfielder Earnie Stewart has been hired as general manager of the U.S. men’s national soccer team, likely delaying the search for a new coach. Stewart has been sporting director of Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union since October 2015 and will start his new job Aug. 1.
