A fire in a Vancouver home Saturday night displaced a family of four, injuring three and sending one to a nearby hospital.

Firefighters responded to a call at 6:07 p.m. Saturday of a fire at a single-family residence near the 600 block of Martin Way in Vancouver, said Raymond Egan, a captain paramedic with the Vancouver Fire Department.

A second engine arrived within five minutes, setting up another hose and searching the premises and discovering the single-story home was actually a duplex, Egan said. The fire was extinguished four minutes later.

Egan said all of the occupants, three adults and a child, had escaped the home safely but reports indicate three were treated on the scene for apparent smoke inhalation. One individual was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The extent of the damage to the home is unclear at this point, he said. The cause also is unknown.

The Red Cross also responded to the scene, providing resources to help the four residents of the home with basic needs of those affected such as temporary housing, food, clothing, comfort kits with toiletry items, and information about recovery services.

Egan said the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.
