Weather Eye: Cooling trend underway after weeks of heat

Our advertised cooling trend is underway today as more marine air filters inland and turns off the heat. It took awhile, but we will have much cooler conditions the next two weeks.

It appears the folks back east will see a return to hot and humid conditions while we cool off, which is quite common as far as weather patterns go. Possibly, later in August, we will switch once again, Hot weather is definitely not out of the summer forecast.

We also see an increasing chance of showers by next Monday. Unusual for August. As the marine clouds thicken later Wednesday through Friday, we could even see some morning drizzle or sprinkles, the kind of daily weather the coastal beaches have had during the recent hot spell.

We should get into the middle to upper 80s today. I don’t think we’ll reach 90, but that depends on how much ocean air arrives. During the next two weeks, we will see high temperatures at times well below the averages of low 80s, dipping to the middle to upper 70s at times. I don’t think I will hear any complaints after the sweltering heat wave.

If you’re planning on making a trip or two to the county fair this weekend, it should be quite pleasant. Even though the heat will be absent, still grab one of those Clark County Dairy Farmer Women’s milkshakes. They are always a must at our local fairground.

Looking at our statistics, we missed 90 degrees for a high on Saturday, topping out at 89 degrees. We also missed the 100 degrees mark Sunday with only 98 degrees. Only? Monday at 5 p.m. it was 91 degrees, making it the 14th day this month at 90 degrees or better. Still, no 100-degree high for Vancouver.

The only rainfall we had was 0.02 inches on July 2, just before the Fourth of July holiday. We will end up about seven-tenths of an inch below average. The average mean temperature was 72.3 degrees, just under 4 degrees above average. Warm and dry it was indeed.
