Southwest Washington may have seen its last 90-degree day for a while, as a shift in weather patterns starts pushing more marine air into the region — and a chance of rain by this weekend.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a high of 87 degrees today, but temperatures are expected to move more toward seasonal levels as the week progresses. The high Thursday is expected to be only 73 degrees.
The cooling trend follows an extended hot spell that saw 14 days at or above 90 degrees since July 12, and eight of the last nine days.
Highs will approach 80 degrees by the weekend, with a slight chance of rain starting late Saturday night and continuing at least until Monday.
Wind patterns will likely bring more high-altitude smoke over the area from wildfires in Southern Oregon and Northern California, but shifting wind patterns will move the smoke away from the area starting Wednesday.
