Mavericks alive, Cardinals out at Legion state

The Vancouver Mavericks used a five-run fourth inning to beat the Hanford Flames 7-6 on Tuesday to remain alive in the American Legion AAA state tournament in Centralia.

Andrew Gulliford and Mason Hill had RBI singles as the Mavericks tooks advantage of three Hanford errors in the fourth inning.

The big fourth inning gave the Mavericks a 6-3 lead. Hanford closed to within a run after six innings. Chad Stoner worked around two walks in the bottom of the seventh to save the win.

Joshua Mansur went 3 for 5 with a double for the Mavericks and Riley McCarthy and Grant Heiser were both 2 for 4.

The Mavericks play Wilder Baseball of Port Angeles in another elimination game at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Wheeler Field in Centralia.

Skagit Sox 12, Vancouver Cardinals 6 — The Cardinals took a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but Skagit rallied back to eliminate Vancouver at W.F. West High School in Chehalis.

Brannan Meriwether and Noah Guyette had RBI doubles in the first inning.

Meriwether finished 2 for 4, and Guyette was 2 for 3 with two doubles.
