BATTLE GROUND — Battle Ground Fire Marshal Chris Drone issued a total ban on recreational fires within the city of Battle Ground on Thursday morning.

All outdoor burning, including recreational fires, are prohibited within the city limits beginning immediately, said a Battle Ground news release.

“The need for the ban is based on weather conditions and community fire safety needs,” Drone said.

Recreational fires, campfires and fires in outdoor fireplaces or chimney-type devices are not allowed during the ban. Cooking outdoors in an approved propane or charcoal barbecue is allowed.

There is no timeline for when Battle Ground’s burn ban, or others currently in effect countywide, will be lifted. Bans are also in place in Vancouver and in unincorporated Clark County.

High temperatures in Vancouver and the surrounding area are forecast to be in the 90s until at least Monday. On Tuesday, a high of 82 is expected, according to the National Weather Service.
