Vancouver Lake stays under advisory, but receives OK on toxin levels

Vancouver Lake remains open, and is still under a health advisory, as a bloom of cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae, is present, but not above the acceptable water quality level threshold, said Clark County Public Health spokeswoman Marissa Armstrong. Water in park restrooms and shelters is not affected and remains safe to drink.

Blooms weren’t detected at the Vancouver Lake swim beach area, but blooms were identified at the Burnt Bridge Creek inlet and the flushing channel near the swim beach. Test results from those locations reported cyanotoxins were below threshold levels recommended by the Washington Department of Health.

The warning signs will remain as long as the blooms are active and present. Additional samples were taken Thursday, and results should return next week.

“Just because there’s no toxins today doesn’t mean there couldn’t be any tomorrow,” Armstrong said.
