CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — A city councilman in Corvallis was arrested after threatening his brother-in-law with a loaded handgun, according to police and court documents.
Mark Page, 47, was booked into jail on charges of menacing, harassment, disorderly conduct, unlawful use of a weapon and recklessly endangering another person, according to court documents filed Monday.
Page remained in jail pending his arraignment. Court records do not list an attorney to speak on his behalf.
A police report obtained by the Corvallis Gazette-Times says officers responding to a domestic dispute Saturday night determined that Page started an altercation with the brother-in-law.
After the men separated, Page retrieved a handgun and pointed it at the man. He then chased him around a car in the driveway, yelling: “I’m gonna put two in you tonight,” the reports states.
Page’s two children and the victim’s seven children were among those who witnessed the incident, according to the report.
Page was elected to the City Council in November 2016.
He ran for Benton County Board of Commissioners this spring, but finished last in a six-person race for the Democratic nomination.
The poor showing came on the heels of a Gazette-Times story that delved into his past.
The newspaper reported that Page owed $140,000 in back child support payments; that the Department of Veterans Affairs disputes his claim to have been officially designated unemployable; that he has a domestic violence incident on his record; and that Kansas State University has no record of a bachelor’s degree he claims to have earned.
Page said he is making payments on his child support debt based on his income; that he is appealing the “unemployable” designation; that the domestic violence conviction was dismissed after he completed anger management classes; and that he received a certificate of completion for his Kansas State coursework, but it was stolen.
