The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating an early Saturday morning fire where a mortar-style firework was thrown into a port-a-potty.

The fire was reported to 911 as a brush fire and arson at 1:08 a.m. Saturday near Northeast 119th Avenue and Northeast 31st Street in the Image neighborhood. Vancouver Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli said the firework damaged the portable toilet and caught surrounding grass on fire, causing about $550 damage.

“These are very dangerous fire conditions right now with the onslaught of hot, windy conditions,” Scarpelli said.

The Image neighborhood is within Vancouver city limits, where fireworks are banned.

The fire marshal’s office is looking for juveniles associated with the incident. Anybody with information about what happened is asked to call the Vancouver Fire Department at 360-487-7219.
