Tibbits shares first-round lead at OGA tournament

Vancouver’s Spencer Tibbits shot a 4-under-par 68 for a share of the lead at the  66th Oregon Men’s Stroke Play Championship, being played at Arrowhead Golf Club in Molalla, Ore.

Tibbits, a Fort Vancouver High grad and top golfer at Oregon State, made four birdies and an eagle during the opening round in the Open Division.

He is tied with Blake Seabaugh of Tigard.

Part of a three-way tie for third is Vancouver’s Jake O’Neal, who had a 69.

The Oregon Golf Association tournament includes 54 holes of stroke play, with three divisions — Open, Senior and Master-40. Each division’s field is cut in half after 36 holes, with the top half of each division advancing to play on Sunday.

Matt Hartley of Vancouver is in fourth place in the Master-40 after a 5-over 77. He is four shots behind leader Brandon Lorain of Woodburn, Ore.

In the Senior division, Vancouver’s Gregg Guernsey is in third place with an even-par 72, two shots behind leader Denny Taylor of Gladstone. Also from Vancouver Tim O’Neal (2-over) is fifth, and Bradley Karns (3-over) is tied for sixth.
