Thousands of Clark County residents lost internet access for hours on Wednesday after construction cut through two of Comcast’s underground conduits.
A representative with the telecommunications company told The Columbian Friday that about 77,000 customers lost their internet connection. Of those, about 11,000 lost the internet for an hour, while 66,000 lost access for up to nine hours until technicians repaired the wires.
The severance occurred at a project site in Camas, near the intersection of Northwest Brady Road and 16th Avenue. Typically, construction workers use spray paint to mark underground utilities before starting a project, but apparently Comcast’s conduits were not detected.
The Comcast representative said the company has heard from customers and has been arranging credits.
