How do you spell relief? M A R I N E  A I R. And we certainly had a nice push of it early Wednesday, which helped us keep things a wee bit manageable with afternoon highs around the county at 80 degrees.

We will see more of the ocean air today and Friday with our highs near 80 degrees, plus or minus. I want to tell you to enjoy these days as much as you can. Get out and go for a refreshing walk, ride a bike or just sit along the river and watch the summertime activities.

Because, no drum roll please, the hot weather will return this weekend. On Saturday, we should inch into the mid-80s and then jump to the mid-90s on Sunday, and I think we stand a good chance of 100 degrees on Monday. Then, the 90s continue on Tuesday and Wednesday.

We have already had 11 days with highs in the 90s. While we average about 13 days a year in the 90s, we will surpass that in the next week or so. It’s going to be a hot one, folks. We endured six straight days of 90 degrees or warmer from July 12 to 17.

The dry weather will continue, as well. Remember in May when we only had 0.14 inches of rain here in Vancouver? Well, I am sharing some rainfall figures from your friends and neighbors for June because we had more rain than in May, believe it or not.

Rob Starr, Cougar, 2.07 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lake Shore, 0.83 inches; Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 0.85 inches; Larry Lebsack, Barberton, 1.27 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 1.40 inches; Judy Darke, Felida, 0.75 inches; Dave Campbell, Amboy, 0.91 inches; Ed Yorty, east of Battle Ground Lake, 1.31 inches; Matt Sloan, McLoughlin Heights, 1.43 inches; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 0.75 inches; and Bob Mode, Minnehaha, 0.82 inches. In Vancouver, the official rainfall was 0.86 inches, nearly an inch below average.

We’ll chat again on what will be a hot Sunday.
