KELSO — Cowlitz County sheriff’s deputies have located a 36-year-old man who walked away Tuesday morning from a work crew he was assigned to.

Thanks to a tip, the Kelso Police Department and Cowlitz County Sheriff’s deputies found Monte E. Huigens hiding behind a house in north Kelso around 4 p.m. He is back in custody, the sheriff’s said.

Huigens had been working with a crew near the Hall of Justice in Kelso when he walked off around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said.

Huigens was in custody for domestic violence, violating a no-contact order, harassment and assault. Deputies had previously worked to locate the victim and notify her of Huigen’s escape, the sheriff’s office said.
