East Vancouver — The Humane Society for Southwest Washington received a $45,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to help transport and relocate dogs and cats to give them a better chance of finding new homes. In 2017, the humane society accepted 1,892 animals from other shelters.

“With our new ‘Rides to the Rescue’ vehicle, we have the ability to travel farther and to more out-of-the-way locations to pick up animals that need a fresh start,” Stacey Graham, president of the society, said in a release.
