Weather Eye: The next few days will bring brief respite from our hot weather

Summer just keeps rolling along with no end in sight. Who can complain with all this sunshine? Oh? It’s too hot for you? Well, I have good news to share.

The good news is today will be the last day of 90 degrees or higher for a brief period. Wednesday through Friday highs will be perfect at 80 degrees, plus or minus. I guess I must add that over the weekend highs jump back into the 90s and continue early next week.

Although it is hot, no records are being set locally as our record highs this time of the year are 100 degrees or higher. Portland did reach 100 degrees Sunday while Vancouver was just behind at 99 degrees.

Sunday’s record high was 103 in 1941. Monday’s record was 101, also in 1941. As of 5 p.m. Monday here in Vancouver it was 96 degrees. Still no rain in sight, just some morning clouds Wednesday through Friday. Keep the garden watered for sure.

With clear summer skies in the evening the Perseid meteors will be appearing soon. On July 27 we have the full moon, which is called the Full Buck Moon, referring to new antlers that erupt on male deer this time of the year.

Meanwhile, the best place to cool off was the coast, with afternoon temperatures in the 65- to 70-degree range. Marine clouds will be present at the ocean beaches the rest of the week with partial late afternoon clearing. The ocean water is running a mild 60 degrees so no numbing of your feet!

Get through today and then more relaxing weather the rest of the week. We will chat on Thursday.
