LONGVIEW — Cowlitz County sheriff’s deputies are actively searching for a 36-year-old man who walked away Tuesday morning from a work crew he was assigned to.

Monte E. Huigens was last seen near the Hall of Justice in Kelso at about 10:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office said.

Huigens was in custody for domestic violence, violating a no contact order, harassment and assault. Deputies are working to locate the victim and notify her of Huigen’s escape, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office does not have any information that suggests Huigens is armed.

Huigens, who is 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds, was wearing an orange shirt with stripes, tan pants and red Air Jordan shoes. Deputies said it is important to note that Huigens has shaved his head since the attached photo was taken. He is almost bald now, the sheriff’s office said.

People who see Huigens should call 911, the sheriff’s office said. They should not try to contact him.
