Clark County Treasurer Doug Lasher has been awarded the Outstanding County Treasurer of the Year Award by a national association of local government officials.

Lasher, who will retire next year at the end of his term, was presented with the award last week at the National Association of County Collectors, Treasurers and Finance Officers’ annual banquet. The association is an affiliate of the National Association of Counties, and it presents the award to a treasurer who “serves as a leader in their home state and as a professional of the highest caliber in the operation of their own county office.”

“Doug is constantly concerned with the well-being of the other county treasurers in Washington state, with a special emphasis on newly elected county treasurers,” wrote Washington State Treasurer Duane A. Davidson, in a letter of support for Lasher, mentioned by a county press release. “He mentors new treasurers and helps them understand the role and responsibilities of the office.”

According to the press release, Lasher, who has held the position since 1984, has embraced innovation in his office and was one of the first treasurers in Washington to implement the Property Assessment and Collection System, which combined the billing and collection systems. The release also cites his work with the county assessor and auditor to establish a joint lobby to provide more efficient services for all three departments.

“My passion and commitment to public service has always been to provide the best in treasury management for the citizens of Clark County,” Lasher said in the press release. “This recognition would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of all the employees who have worked with me since the first day I walked into the treasurer’s office back in 1984. I am very proud of what we have accomplished.”
