Weather Eye: Scorching heat tops out today, continues throughout the week

Summer continues in full swing as sunny, hot weather is with us for a few more days. Eventually the pressure pattern changes and we get cooler ocean air midweek to cool us down into the 80s.

Our average high for this week is about 81 or 82 degrees and we still will remain above that. No rain in sight and I can see temperatures next weekend shooting back toward 90 degrees. We are on a roll with a string of 90s beginning Thursday with 95 degrees, Friday at 91 degrees, and 91 degrees as of 5 p.m. Saturday. Today, we top out at 95 or so and another 90-degree high Monday and Tuesday.

At midmonth we are running about three degrees above normal with the average mean temperature.

Last July, Vancouver only had three 90-degree high temperatures; we have accomplished that already and will be adding three more to beat 2017. Last year on this date we had a “cool” 80 degrees for a high.

Since it is quiet in the weather department here is a tidbit for you. The Sequim City Ordinance 95-009, Section 2.1 specifically prohibits “weather conditions that are detrimental to enjoyment of activities within the city.” How about that for an ordinance?

Now that may sound a little difficult to enforce, but that city lies in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains and only receives about 15 inches of rain annually about the same as Los Angeles. Their year to date rainfall so far in 2018 was only 6.45 inches.

Sequim enjoys highs around 70 degrees in summer and rarely 90 degrees.

Keep cool and we will chat on Tuesday.
