An infant died and its mother was critically injured Thursday in a single-vehicle rollover crash in east Clark County, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash was reported at 6:53 p.m. in the 26000 block of Northeast Bradford Road.

Rescuers arrived on scene to find that passers-by had removed an unresponsive infant from the vehicle and were peforming CPR, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

The child’s mother, Amanda Pfeifer, 26, of Vancouver had to be mechanically extricated from an overturned 2008 Nissan Altima, which had struck a tree alongside the roadway, the statement said.

Both the mother and child were transported to a hospital suffering from traumatic injuries.

The infant succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital later Thursday evening. Pfeifer remained in critical condition, the sheriff’s office said. The infant’s name and gender were not released.

The crash is under investigation by detectives with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit.
