Weather Eye: After a warm day, get ready for a spate of scorchers

Monday behaved as expected with a push of marine air which held for a most of the day. Breaks in the clouds appeared around 3 p.m. with sun making a late entrance.

Today we see more clouds with clearing in the afternoon and seasonal temperatures. A big warmup begins tomorrow.

Wednesday through the weekend, we remain dry and hot with highs near 90 and above. We still have weather systems to the west and northwest being shunted to our north. An infiltration of marine air is possible Friday and Saturday. It might drop into the 80s temporarily.

It looks like a long stretch of warm, dry weather coming up. That isn’t unusual as the next six weeks or so are our hottest days of the summer.

So far this month we are running about 1 degree above average. That will certainly go up during the next week or so. Precipitation has been a scant 0.02 inches. Things are really dry. This is our driest month of the year receiving less than 1 inch of rain on average.

The only way we could get any measurable rain would be if we had some moisture move up from the south and set off some heavy thundershowers. Not seeing that at this point but there will be some unstable air and moisture moving into Southern Oregon later in the week. That may bring thunderstorms over the Southern Oregon Cascades and maybe the extreme southern Willamette Valley, but that’s about it for now.

At 4 p.m. Monday it was a pleasant 70 degrees. We won’t see that sort of cool interlude for a while. Enjoy today. Prepare for the hot stuff.
