A 14-year-old boy riding a bicycle on Northeast Andresen Road at state Highway 500 did not stop for a red crosswalk signal and was struck by a car Monday morning, according to Washington State Patrol.

Troopers said in a crash memo that a Kia Forte was eastbound on the highway about 10:30 a.m. when it took the offramp to Andresen Road, entering the intersection on a green light.

“The bicyclist was crossing the roadway on a red crosswalk sign and was struck by (the sedan),” according to the crash memo.

The teen suffered unspecified injuries and was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.

He was treated at PeaceHealth and transferred to Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland. A Legacy Health spokeswoman said the teen was being evaluated in the emergency department.

The driver of the Kia, 28-year-old John W. Alexander of Vancouver, was not charged.

Troopers reported the cause of the crash was the teen’s failure to obey a traffic signal.
