A Clark County Superior Court judge sentenced a former Washington substitute teacher to six months in jail Monday after the man pleaded guilty to child pornography charges.

Kurtis L. Kasner, 76, of Vancouver pleaded guilty in May to second-degree viewing depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Kasner sent his computer’s external hard drive to a repair company in California, which found child pornography on the drive. The repair company gave the drive to the FBI, and the case was forwarded to the Vancouver Police Department’s Digital Evidence Cybercrime Unit, court records state.

In 2015, Kasner was also convicted in King County for possession of child pornography after a technician at a repair company discovered it on his computer.

Kasner is retired but had been a substitute teacher in the Northshore School District, which covers Bothell, Kenmore, Woodinville and parts of unincorporated King County, according to Seattle Times reports on the earlier case. He also taught in California for 30 years before moving to Washington.

The Clark County sentence includes a year of community custody.
