Improvements are coming to the Vancouver Tennis Center and the VTC Foundation is holding a meeting to discuss what is in store.
The public is invited to the informal meeting from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Vancouver City Hall’s Aspen Room (415 W. 6th Street, enter on south side of City Hall) to hear the plan of operations by the United States Tennis Association Pacific Northwest Section. The USTA-PNW is taking over operations at VTC from the city. The 20-year agreement was announced in March.
Upcoming projects at VTC include replacement of the facility’s roof beginning this week, which will require a partial closure of some of the indoor tennis courts through August as work progresses. Interior painting will commence the week of July 23, requiring half of the facility to be shut down.
Other work will include new lighting, court resurfacing, and replacement of backdrops and net dividers.
“Major maintenance on VTC has long been deferred so it is exciting to see these needed investments in the facility. However, members need to be aware of impacts to court availability in July and August as well as increased noise levels and loss of parking,” said Parks and Recreation Director Julie Hannon in a Facebook post to the VTC Foundation page.
Hannon added that VTC will be completely closed for approximately three weeks from mid-August to early September to complete the transition from the city’s operation of the facility to USTA-PNW.
