An early-morning fire heavily damaged a home in the Sifton neighborhood Saturday, sending one resident to the hospital with smoke inhalation, according to the Vancouver Fire Department.

Crews responded about 4 a.m. to 12100 N.E. 79th St. to reports of a fully involved house fire with possible occupants still inside, according to a fire department statement. They arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the garage and front of the house.

“Crews immediately began applying water from the outside and quickly made their way inside the home, continuing to extinguish the fire and search for victims,” the statement said.

One patient suffering from smoke inhalation was transported to a hospital, the statement said. No other injuries were reported.

The fire was brought under control in 20 minutes by 20 firefighters, the statement said.

Volunteers from the American Red Cross provided assistance to four adults and two children, according to a Red Cross press release.

The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
