Weather Eye: Fourth of July forecast to be warm, around 85 degrees

Happy Fourth of July! With no rain in the forecast, the holiday will be great! Highs around 85 degrees, warm but not sizzling. Today we have 75 degrees and another 85 on Thursday. Then we slide downward a bit to the 75- to 80-degree range Friday through Monday.

We had a cool trough of low pressure swing through overnight Sunday and brought 0.02 of an inch of rain to Vancouver. Despite broken clouds and sunshine, we only managed to reach 71 degrees as of 5 p.m. That was below the average high of 77 degrees.

While our weather here in Clark County will be nice, there is a chance of sprinkles along the Washington Coast the next several days. But just a slight chance. If camping or watching fireworks locally or at the coast, you won’t need a Plan B this year.

While we have a forecast of 85 degrees Wednesday, the record high for the Fourth in Vancouver is 95 degrees set just three years ago, in 2015. The record low was in 1916 with a chilly 41 degrees.

We have been lucky now for many years with the rainfall, which there’s only a 15 percent chance of for the holiday. The heaviest rain was 0.92 of an inch in 1937. I remember lots of cool evenings with stiff winds blowing, but hardly any rainy fireworks viewings.

I noticed some areas of Eastern Washington and Oregon had red flag warnings up Monday. This indicates our fire danger is rising, and with windy and dry conditions the fire potential is getting high. Meanwhile, no matter what you do around the Northwest, the summer weather is in full swing. Get out and enjoy it.
