AJ Schock of Battle Ground won two divisions in her debut at the United States Bowling Congress Women’s Championships, which finished Sunday at Reno, Nev.
Schock rolled the highest set of her career on the way to the lead in Diamond Singles (787) and Diamond All-Events (2,132).
She rolled games of 276, 233 and 278, and her set Sunday morning is the third-highest singles series in tournament history. She added sets of 674 in team and 671 in doubles to edge Team USA’s Julia Bond of Aurora, Ill., for the all-events lead.
Schock started her final game of singles with back-to-back spares, before rattling off nine consecutive strikes. Her strike in the ninth frame wrapped up the singles lead, and she filled 29 pins in the 10th frame to secure the top spot in all-events.
Her performance Sunday has her looking forward to the next step of her career, competing on the Professional Women’s Bowling Association Tour.
“The PWBA Tour has been a goal of mine since it restarted,” Schock said. “Today definitely gave me a boost to give it a try.”
TENNIS: Local duo 4th at national mother-daughter doubles
Theresa Mallari and daughter Hannah Gianan, a Camas High grad, placed fourth at the USTA National Mother-Daughter Doubles Tournament that concluded Sunday at Club Green Meadows.
Mallari and Gianan were the only Clark County duo in the draw. They reached the semifinals with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over a team from Grand Junction, Colo., but then lost in the semifinals 6-3, 6-1 to the No. 2 seed from Pleasanton, Calif. They finished with a 6-2, 7-5 loss in the third-place match to the No. 1 seed from Los Angeles.
Gianan, a two-time Columbian’s All-Region girls tennis player of the year who played at Seattle U. as a freshman last season, recently reached the quarterfinals in singles and won the doubles title at the adidas Open Championships in Portland that ended on June 24.
LITTLE LEAGUE: More district champs crowned, off to state
Little League All-Star baseball and softball action continues around Clark County. Here’s an update from the various age groups.
Major baseball: Salmon Creek went 5-0, beating Glenwood 10-0 in the final to win the District 6 title on Friday.
The District 4 tournament begins Saturday at Fort Vancouver Little League.
Salmon Creek and the District 4 champ advance to state at Sedro-Woolley beginning July 21.
This is the age group that advances to the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pa.
8-10 baseball: Camas beat Fort Vancouver 6-4 on Friday to win the District 4 title. Fort Vancouver had forced a second title game with a 6-5 win over Camas the previous day.
Salmon Creek beat Hazel Dell 18-2 on Thursday and 8-3 on Friday to win the District 6 title.
Camas and Salmon Creek advance to the state tournament at Lynnwood beginning Saturday.
9-11 baseball: Salmon Creek won the District 6 title by defeating Ridgefield 10-2 on June 27. Ridgefield had forced a second title game by beating Salmon Creek 12-2 the day before.
The District 4 tournament will conclude on Saturday at Evergreen Little League.
Salmon Creek and the District 4 champ advance to state at SeaTac beginning July 14.
Junior baseball: The District 4 tournament began Monday and continues through Friday (Saturday, if necessary) at Evergreen Little League. The winner advances to state at Yakima beginning July 14.
Major softball: The state tournament at Columbia Little League began June 30 and runs through July 8. District 4 champion Camas remains alive after an 8-2 win over District 10 on Monday. District 6 champion La Center was eliminated with a 10-6 loss. Camas plays another loser-out game on Thursday.
8-10 softball: Camas won the District 4 title June 29, beating Evergreen 10-5. Camas advances to state beginning Saturday at Cheney.
YOUTH BALL: Camas girl top 3 in Northwest regional of Pitch, Hit & Run
Molly Walsh of Camas was recognized at Safeco Field on Sunday during the Seattle Mariners game for taking part in the Mariners Team Championship Competition of the MLB Pitch, Hit & Run.
She was among the top three girls in the 7-8-year-old softball division of the greater Pacific Northwest after advancing through local and sectional competitions held in May and June.
RUNNING: Twilight Half Marathon is Saturday
Vancouver Lake Park is the site for Saturday’s Twilight Half Marathon.
There will be a half marathon on a USATF certified course, plus a 10K, 5K and kids’ 1-mile course.
The half marathon will begin at 6 p.m., with the 10K at 6:15 p.m., the 5K at 6:30 p.m., and the kids’ run at 6:40 p.m.
Day-of-race registration opens at 4 p.m. and is $99 for the half marathon, $79 for the 10K, $69 for the 5K. The “bit-tardy” registration prices through Friday is $5 less. The kids’ run is $20.
The event benefits the Children’s Cancer Association.

TRACK & FIELD: Evergreen Storm excel at championships
The Evergreen Storm Track Club qualified 37 athletes to the Region 13 Championships based on results from the Association Championships.
There were 10 Evergreen athletes who accounted for 18 titles. There were also 11 club records set.
In the 13-14 age group, Kaiden Garrison won the 100-meter and 200 hurdles, both in club record times of 14.82 seconds and 27.04 seconds respectively.
In the 15-16 age group, Trey Knight won the shot put (club record 59 feet, 5 1/2 inches), discus and hammer; Weslie Tran won the triple jump and long jump (club record 22-5 1/4 ); Lucy George won the long jump (club record 17-7 3/4 ), high jump (club record 5-3), 100 hurdles (club record 14.20) and 400 hurdles (club record 1:03.26).
In the 17-18 age group, Emily Phelps won the 1,500, and 2,000 steeplechase (club record 7:07); Presley Timmons won the 800; Zach Maier, Ryan Davy, Bryan Tavera and Micah Kinnunen won the 400 relay. Tavera also won the triple jump (club record 45.4), and Kinnunen won the 100 and 200.
Regionals begin Thursday in Bend, Ore.
