PORTLAND — Friends of the Columbia Gorge has donated $10,000 to kick off a six-week crowdfunding effort to help the U.S. Forest Service rebuild trails between Multnomah Falls and Angel’s Rest in the Columbia River Gorge damaged in last summer’s forest fire.

Friends of the Columbia Gorge and Oregon’s Kitchen Table are working together on a crowdfunding effort to the Be There for The Gorge campaign to help the U.S. Forest Service mobilize experts and highly trained volunteers to work with federal and state agencies to repair trails in burned areas.

After assessing area trails after the fires, the U.S. Forest Service and other experts reported post-fire hazards of stump holes, standing dead trees weakened by fire, and rock fall and debris flow across trails.
