Letter: Reach the hearts of others

By John Sanders, Vancouver
Published: January 21, 2018, 6:00am

As I stood on a street corner near Lincoln Place in downtown Vancouver, with no direction as to where I might lay my head for the night, a gentleman approached me and introduced himself as Tom Clute. We had a short conversation and he asked if I’d come to his place for shelter that night, and I agreed.

This man’s compassion for human life is unbelievable; he lives, breathes and dreams for our world to be a better place! Clute shared with me parts of his own journey of transitioning from rescue to mentorship. What he shared was a huge part of my new direction in life.

As a result of his compassion for fellow humans, he encouraged my inner will to carry on and put one foot forward, day by day — to wake up loving myself, no matter how I look or feel. I’m a child of God, just like every single creature on this planet is. I now have the desire to carry on with my housing, health and life and, most of all, as a human once again.

I hope this letter will reach the hearts of others.
